Google has launched the Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch and unveiled the new Pixel Tag item locator during the official presentation of its Pixel 11 smartphones. The updated smartwatch features a faster processor, improved battery efficiency, dual-frequency GPS enhancements, and expanded health tracking tools. The Pixel Tag introduces precision location hardware to Google's product ecosystem to compete directly against rival tracking accessories such as Apple's AirTag.
Google is an American technology company headquartered in Mountain View, California, known for developing the Android operating system and the Pixel line of hardware. The new announcement expands its wearable lineup alongside its flagship smartphone range.
Display and physical design
The Pixel Watch 5 is available in two case sizes measuring 41 millimetres and 45 millimetres across. Without the strap attached, the 41 mm model weighs 31 grams, while the larger 45 mm version weighs 36.7 grams.
Both models feature an Actua 360 AMOLED LTPO screen capable of reaching a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and supports a variable refresh rate ranging between 1 Hz and 60 Hz to optimize power consumption. Durability ratings remain unchanged from the prior generation at IP68 for dust and water protection alongside 5 ATM water resistance, which indicates resistance to water pressure at depths down to 50 metres.
Processor and performance specs
Internal upgrades are led by a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor paired with a Cortex-M55 coprocessor. Google stated that the central processing unit is 12 percent faster and that the watch includes 50 percent more RAM, generating a 20 percent increase in overall performance compared to the Pixel Watch 4.
The device comes equipped with 64 GB of internal storage and ships with Wear OS 7. Wear OS is Google's dedicated smartwatch operating system designed to integrate wearable devices with mobile services and applications.
Battery life and charging speed
Battery performance reaches 30 hours of continuous operation with the always-on display enabled on the 41 mm version, and 40 hours on the 45 mm version. When battery saver mode is activated, battery life extends to 48 hours for the 41 mm model and 72 hours for the 45 mm model.
Google has also introduced a new Quick Charge Dock accessory. The charger enables the watch battery to reach a 50 percent charge in approximately 15 minutes.
Dual frequency GPS tracking
Google has updated the dual-frequency GPS system on the Pixel Watch 5. The device utilizes three-dimensional building models and ground reference stations to correct location errors caused by signal reflections off buildings and atmospheric interference.
According to the company, route tracking accuracy in complex urban environments is up to twice as precise as tracking on previous generations of the smartwatch.
Health Guardian and sleep monitoring
The primary health features are grouped under the Health Guardian system. The smartwatch can detect a persistent drop in blood oxygen saturation associated with a respiratory emergency and automatically contact emergency services for assistance.
The watch also monitors trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance using machine learning models and onboard sensors. The system does not provide specific blood pressure readings or replace a medical tensiometer, but instead alerts users to long-term health changes.
Sleep tracking accuracy has been increased by 15 percent. Additional features include monitoring breathing quality during sleep, Smart Wake alarms, and new bedtime routine automations. Google stated that a portion of these health features will begin rolling out in September, with regional availability dependent on individual country approvals.
Pricing and color options
The 41 mm Pixel Watch 5 is offered in four case and strap combinations: a matte black case with an obsidian strap, a polished silver case with a fog grey strap, a satin pyrite case with an olive green strap, and a champagne gold case with a canyon strap. The 45 mm version omits the champagne gold and canyon combination from its standard line.
Pricing for the Pixel Watch 5 starts at 419 euros for the 41 mm model, which represents a 20 euro increase over the prior generation. The 45 mm version starts at 449 euros.
Pixel Tag features and specs
Alongside the smartwatch, Google introduced the Pixel Tag, a compact locator measuring 46.1 by 28 by 5.4 millimetres and weighing 11.8 grams with its battery installed. The device features an IP67 rating for dust and water protection, an integrated speaker, and an accelerometer.
Power is supplied by a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery with an estimated battery life of more than one year. The tag connects to the Android device location network and incorporates Bluetooth Channel Sounding and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for precision tracking on compatible devices, offering a UWB range of up to 50 metres.
Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Channel Sounding are short-range wireless communication standards that enable high-precision distance and directional positioning between compatible electronic devices.
Ecosystem integration and release date
Users can locate the Pixel Tag and trigger its internal chime using a Pixel Watch. Alternatively, users can ask the Gemini artificial intelligence assistant through Pixel Buds wireless earbuds to locate a tagged item.
The Pixel Tag is not yet listed on Google's official Spanish store, and pricing for Spain has not been announced. On the Google Store in the United States, the device is listed at 29 dollars, matching the United States price of Apple's AirTag. In Spain, an Apple AirTag sells for 35 euros individually or 119 euros for a four-pack. Google listed the Pixel Tag for release starting in November.
