Five-second dishwashers unveiled by French tech reporter

French technology journalist Anicet Mbida has presented a new generation of home appliances that can wash dishes in five seconds on television network TF1.

The featured equipment includes a compact dishwasher designed for one or two place settings alongside a vacuum tumble dryer capable of drying clothes in under 15 minutes.

Speaking on the morning show Bonjour La Matinale TF1, Mbida explained that the mini dishwasher eliminates the need to pre-rinse items even when food residue has dried hard. He said the unit sprays plates with fine droplets of very hot water at high pressure to dislodge grime without using any chemical detergent.

Anicet Mbida is a French digital and innovation reporter who regularly presents consumer technology segments on national broadcast networks. TF1 is France's leading private television channel, and its morning programme Bonjour La Matinale TF1 provides live news bulletins, lifestyle reports, and consumer advice to viewers across the country.

High pressure cleaning and pricing

Mbida said the appliance adapts technology from industrial dishwashers that rely on pressurized water streams to clean rapidly. Traditional domestic dishwashers typically run extended cycles using chemical detergents and heating elements, whereas industrial systems use high fluid velocity to scour surfaces mechanically in commercial kitchens.

He emphasized that the compact machine is not intended to replace a traditional household dishwasher. Instead, it is designed as a kitchen supplement to simplify hand washing for large casserole dishes and heavy pots that are difficult to fit into standard machines.

To explain the concept, Mbida compared the device to the microwave oven, noting that microwaves revolutionized cooking speed without replacing standard ovens. He stated that the dishwasher is not yet available on the market but is expected to cost between 200 and 300 euros when released.

Small-footprint kitchen appliances designed for single professionals or small households have become increasingly popular in consumer electronics. High-pressure water jet systems use specialized nozzles to accelerate water droplets, stripping away stubborn food particles without requiring prolonged pre-soaking or abrasive hand scrubbing.

Fast vacuum drying technology

The broadcast also showcased an innovation designed to shorten laundry routines. Mbida described a tumble dryer that can complete a full drying cycle in less than a quarter of an hour by placing the machine drum under a vacuum.

He explained that lowering atmospheric pressure inside the drum reduces the boiling point of water. As a result, water turns into steam at temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius instead of the usual 100 degrees, allowing wet clothes to dry rapidly at much lower heat levels.

In thermodynamics, reducing ambient air pressure lowers the boiling point required for liquid vaporization. Industrial processing plants and commercial laundries frequently use vacuum drying to remove moisture quickly while protecting heat-sensitive textiles. Conventional domestic dryers rely on circulating hot air through a rotating drum, whereas vacuum drying allows rapid moisture extraction at mild temperatures, reducing energy use and protecting fabric fibers from heat wear.
