Greek performers Nefeli Fasouli and Panos Papadopoulos are reuniting on stage for a second year to bring back their play "Small Humiliations" (Mikres Tapeinoseis), which returns for a new run at Baumstrasse in Athens from 12 October.
The production follows the diary of a person recording their life day by day, with Fasouli and Papadopoulos appearing as two musicians walking through the small humiliations of everyday existence. The show was an instant hit with audiences during its previous run, selling out repeatedly before its return was announced.
Inspired by a grandfather's diary
Papadopoulos said the idea for the play came from a diary kept by his grandfather, Nikos, whose detailed record of everyday events, told through his gentle perspective, left him thinking about how complex and beautiful a mechanism a human being is underneath. He said that with additional writing from Lena Kitsopoulou and two musicians performing live on stage, Kostis Christodoulou and Kimonas Karoutzos, they would try to express all the "I love yous" that people never dared to confess at the right moment.
Kitsopoulou is a well known Greek playwright and actress whose work often blends dark humour with intimate, everyday subject matter.

Fasouli and Papadopoulos conceived and directed the show together. Sets and costumes are by Alexandra-Anastasia Ftouli, with lighting design by Panagiotis Tsevrenis. Additional texts are credited to Lena Kitsopoulou. Christodoulou plays piano and Karoutzos double bass on stage, and photography for the production is by Dimitris Makris.
Dates and tickets
"Small Humiliations" runs for 11 performances between 12 October and 3 November, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 12, 13 and 14 October; 19, 20 and 21 October; 26, 27 and 28 October; and 2 and 3 November. Performances start at 21:00 and run 75 minutes.
