Greek actress Evgenia Samara has climbed Mytikas, the highest peak of Mount Olympus, completing an annual mountain trek she postponed for ten years.
Writing on Instagram, the actress explained that for the past decade she has made an annual pilgrimage to Mount Olympus every September before returning to her regular work schedule after the summer break. Videos and photographs published on her social media account documented the steep and challenging route she followed to reach the summit.
Ten-Year Mountain Tradition
Samara described the mountain region as her favorite place and personal sanctuary, referring to Mount Olympus as the mountain of the gods. She shared with her followers that while she had intended to make the climb to the top during previous visits, other activities had consistently taken priority.
Mount Olympus, situated on the border between Thessaly and Macedonia in northern Greece, is the highest mountain range in the country. Its summit, Mytikas, rises to an elevation of 2,917 metres above sea level and is renowned both for its role in Greek mythology as the home of the Twelve Olympians and for its demanding terrain that requires careful navigation.
Ascent to Mytikas Summit
Reflecting on the successful climb, Samara noted that events in life occur in their own time and alongside the people with whom they are destined to happen. She stated that the opportunity finally arrived this year for her and her companion Oly to reach Mytikas peak, describing the moment of reaching the summit and drinking nectar as a wonderful experience.
The actress attributed the success of the trek to her friend and mountain guide Antonis Tsourekas, who led the expedition up the mountain. Samara expressed her gratitude to Tsourekas, describing him as the finest mountain guide in the world and offering an unreserved recommendation on behalf of herself and her companion.
The shared media captured key moments of the difficult ascent, showing the rocky pathways leading to the highest point in Greece before Samara returned home to resume her routine.
