An emergency room nurse using the Reddit handle Accomplished-Pear837 has recalled some of the most dramatic moments of her career, including the rescue of a two-year-old patient, Lenta.ru reported.
The nurse said an ambulance was called to a two-year-old boy whose parents had failed to properly care for him. She said paramedics arriving at the scene initially believed he had already died.
Once the boy reached her, she said, he clung to her and would not let go for her entire shift, to the point that she could not even take off her sweater. She said she put a TV series on her phone and sat with him on the stretcher, and that as he fought to stay awake, she told him he was safe. She said he eventually rested his small head on her shoulder and fell asleep.
A second patient she remembers
The nurse also recalled a 20-year-old woman who was admitted with confused thinking. Her condition worsened quickly, and she was airlifted by helicopter to another hospital with a diagnosis of meningitis.
The nurse said she saw the young woman again three years later, healthy and happy, and that the woman's mother recognized her. She said the encounter brought a feeling of warmth that reminded her why she does the job.
Another Reddit user working as a nurse previously attempted to self-diagnose a supposedly fatal illness at three in the morning, convincing herself she had a life-threatening condition, according to an earlier report.
