Dominican urban music artist Johan Manuel Nova, known professionally as El Sujeto Oro 24, revealed on social media that a suspect was apprehended after allegedly robbing his mother inside her home in Los Mina.
The incident began when an unidentified man arrived at the family residence in a public transport minibus and requested a glass of water to gain access to the interior of the house. Once inside, the individual grabbed a mobile phone belonging to Nova's mother and attempted to flee the scene.
The escape was quickly thwarted when local residents intervened, surrounding the fleeing suspect, detaining him, and securing the minibus he had arrived in. Community members held the man until a National Police patrol arrived to take him into official custody.
Johan Manuel Nova, widely recognized across the Dominican Republic for his work in the urban mambo and dembow music genres, shared details of the robbery with his followers on Instagram. Los Mina, located in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, is a densely populated urban sector where public transport minibuses, known locally as guaguas, serve as a primary mode of daily transit.
Vehicle held at Los Mina detachment
Following the arrest, officers transferred the suspect to the Felicidad police detachment in Los Mina. The individual remains in custody at the station while prosecutors from the Public Ministry carry out a detailed investigation into the theft.
Refusing to remain neutral, Nova issued a public warning across his social media channels, confirming that he has taken personal control of the minibus used in the crime. The musician stated that he will keep the vehicle locked down in Los Mina until his mother's stolen mobile phone is safely returned.
Nova explained in his video message that the driver of the minibus had personally entered his mother's home under the pretense of asking for water. He added that the perpetrator's plan failed because his associates intercepted the man before he could escape.
The urban artist issued a direct demand to those involved, calling on them to face the situation and return the stolen property. He warned that if the mobile device does not turn up, the impounded minibus will remain parked in Los Mina indefinitely.
Police investigation into potential accomplices
The National Police and the Public Ministry continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the break-in. In the Dominican Republic, the Public Ministry serves as the constitutional body responsible for leading criminal prosecutions and directing law enforcement inquiries.
Authorities confirmed that ongoing checks are being conducted to determine whether the detained man has a prior criminal record or if additional accomplices were involved in planning the robbery.
