Six members of Ed Sheeran's stage crew were hospitalized after an accident occurred during stage dismantling following his concert in Detroit, Michigan.
The incident took place on Saturday, August 29, at Ford Field stadium, where workers were struck by heavy equipment shortly after the performance ended.
According to local news outlet Click On Detroit, emergency calls to the Detroit Fire Department indicated that assistance was dispatched to the stadium around 11 p.m. for an accident involving injuries caused by a forklift vehicle.
One worker who was struck in the chest told Click On Detroit that the entire incident unfolded in fractions of a second.
Injuries and hospitalizations
None of the six crew members sustained life-threatening injuries, though officials confirmed that two workers suffered serious injuries in the mishap.
The remaining four workers were listed in stable condition while being transported to a local clinic and hospital for treatment.
One member of the crew remained hospitalized overnight for observation before being discharged on Sunday, August 30.
Officials also clarified that at least one of the injured crew members is a staff employee at Ford Field stadium rather than a traveling member of the tour production team.
Official investigation and tour plans
In a statement issued several hours after the incident, Ford Field officials confirmed that the venue has launched a full investigation into the cause of the accident.
Venue management stated that they are working closely with relevant authorities and event production partners, adding that they would not speculate on the causes out of respect for those involved and to preserve the integrity of the inquiry.
Ford Field representatives also expressed their gratitude to the Detroit Fire Department and emergency medical services personnel for their rapid response to the scene.
Despite the stage accident in Detroit, Ed Sheeran's concert tour is scheduled to proceed as planned without delays or cancellations.
The English singer-songwriter is set to perform his next scheduled tour date on Friday, September 4, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
