Health and wellbeing entrepreneur Dominique Elissa went viral after wearing a sheer wedding dress that exposed her nipples in a social media video. Elissa, who has more than 301,000 followers on Instagram, opted for the Lilou gown by designer J. Andreatta for her celebrations. The dress was crafted from intricate lace that left little to the imagination.
Reactions to the bridal dress divided commentators online. While many praised the outfit as a "beautiful dress" and one fan added, "I think she looks gorgeous," others were far less complimentary. One observer wrote, "Imagine a man wearing his wedding suit and just casually showing his plums." Another remarked, "I think the dress is beautiful but I can't imagine my parents and grandparents and in-laws seeing my nipples lol." Naked dressing refers to an ensemble made of predominantly sheer, transparent or flesh-toned fabric that creates the illusion of nudity. Elissa is not the only person embracing the unconventional trend for personal events. Pharmacist Jennifer Epstein, 43, from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, told the Wall Street Journal that her husband was left speechless over her sheer outfit. She wore a sheer black lace dress showcasing her underwear to dinner with her spouse, who later asked, "Where is the rest of your outfit?"
Epstein explained her decision to wear the transparent outfit to the outlet. "It feels empowering," Epstein said. "It's a modern kind of feminism that embraces self assurance and femininity on your own terms."
Fashion stylist Liz Teich, known online as The New York Stylist, weighed in on how to master the divisive trend. Teich, who recently styled a bride at Kleinfeld's in NYC, stated that the look can definitely be done "tastefully." She explained that many bridal gowns feature skin-toned mesh panels that appear like skin while still providing coverage. While some featured heavy sparkle reminiscent of a Britney Spears "Oops, I Did It Again" outfit, Teich noted they incorporated a better mix of materials so they can actually be quite elegant for pictures.
Styling Advice for Guests and Daytime
For wedding guests, Teich offered specific guidelines on wearing sheer fabrics. "Mesh panels can work well [on a dress], but I'd personally recommend opting for them on the bottom of a skirt, shoulders, or back so as not to compete with the bride or, worse, look inappropriate," Teich said. Referencing Chappell Roan's daring dress at the Grammys 2026, Teich warned guests not to wear anything that the bride's grandmother would be appalled at. She added that if a dress shows considerable skin, wearing undergarments such as a corset or triangle bra provides additional coverage.
For daytime wear, Teich explained that she prefers to remain "demure" while staying on trend. She recommended wearing a sheer silk top as a jacket, over a camisole, or over a bra for evening events, or adding a mesh panel to a skirt. Teich also warned against synthetic sheer fabrics, advising people to opt for silk or silk organza instead because synthetic materials can be itchy, bad for the environment, and less durable.
