Dominican cooperatives with over 500,000 members launch a joint vehicle financing fair running September 21 to 26 with fixed-rate loans.

Dominican Cooperatives Launch First Auto Fair

A group of savings and credit cooperatives in the Dominican Republic announced on Tuesday the Autoferia Cooperativa 2026, the first vehicle financing fair organized jointly by the country's cooperative movement.

The event will run from September 21 to 26 at the offices of the participating institutions and at exhibition points set up alongside partner car dealerships.

The organizing cooperatives together bring together more than half a million members and a network of offices covering the Cibao region, the National District and other parts of the country. This edition includes Cooperativa San Jose, Coopbueno, CoopUnion, Coopgapa, Cooprospera and Coopprogreso.

Financing terms on offer

During the fair, members will have access to conditions designed for the occasion, including a fixed interest rate for the full term of the loan, a financing percentage higher than what is typically available on the market, no penalty for early payoff or extra payments toward the principal, and insurance options. The offer covers new and used vehicles from various dealerships.

Edward Fana, general manager of CoopProspera, said the Autoferia Cooperativa showed that cooperatives go further when they work together. He said they were not competing with each other for the same members, but rather combining their capacity to offer every Dominican family a real and transparent alternative when buying a vehicle. Fana made the comments during a press conference held at the Tenu restaurant in Santiago.

Credit pre-approval

One of the features that sets the project apart is credit pre-approval. Each cooperative identifies members within its own loan portfolio who already have financing capacity, so they arrive at the fair with a quick response and a committed service time.

The participating cooperatives said the project reflects the sixth cooperative principle, cooperation among cooperatives, and that each member will be served by their own institution.

What organizers are saying

Melvin Rodriguez, general manager of Cooperativa San Jose, said they were asking the market to view the cooperative movement as a single force, and described the fair as just the first step of an alliance that could extend into other areas of service. Maritza Lopez de Ortiz, administrative president of the Instituto de Desarrollo y Credito Cooperativo, known as Idecoop, the state agency that oversees and promotes cooperatives in the Dominican Republic, also took part in the event.

How to apply

People interested in the fair can get information at the offices of the participating cooperatives and through their digital channels, where the requirements, final conditions and application form will be available starting September 14.

The Autoferia Cooperativa 2026 is an initiative by savings and credit cooperatives aimed at helping their members buy vehicles through preferential financing, credit pre-approval, dealership partnerships and insurance options.
