Belarusian authorities have detained Russian businessman Dmitry Mizgir on suspicion of supplying low-quality canned meat to military personnel in the special military operation zone, Izvestia reported. Russian law enforcement agencies consider Mizgir a key participant in the fraudulent scheme.
Mizgir had been on a federal wanted list for about three months before his capture. The Belarusian State Security Committee joined the search following suspicions that he might flee to Belarus. Security forces tracked him using phone calls and street video cameras before taking him into custody.
Role in Defense Ministry Case
Moscow's 235th Garrison Military Court remanded Mizgir in custody for two months. He is providing testimony to investigators, although he does not admit guilt.
According to a source cited by Izvestia, Mizgir allegedly served as a link between canned food producers and the primary suspect, Viktor Tarazevich, who heads the Food Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Arrests in the case began in July after authorities uncovered the supply of substandard canned food to military personnel. Investigators said Tarazevich and several commercial figures formed a criminal group that generated 700 million rubles in illegal profits.
