DJI Matrice 5T Drone Launches With LiDAR and 176x Zoom

DJI has unveiled the Matrice 5T industrial drone, introducing LiDAR sensing, thermal cameras and 176x zoom for professional infrastructure inspections.

DJI Matrice 5T Drone Launches With LiDAR and 176x Zoom

Drone manufacturer DJI has launched its new Matrice 5T industrial aircraft worldwide, equipping the compact platform with integrated LiDAR and long-range hybrid zoom.

The commercial drone went on sale on 5 November 2026 through authorized enterprise dealers, priced in mainland China at 57,488 yuan, or approximately 8,600 dollars. Initial dealer listings in Europe indicate prices around 8,600 euros, though regional costs and package contents will determine final retail pricing.

Designed for demanding field operations such as utility maintenance and search and rescue, the aircraft brings advanced sensing technologies previously limited to heavy industrial airframes into a portable system. The aircraft offers up to 59 minutes of flight time and a maximum video transmission range of 40 kilometres under optimal conditions.

Shenzhen-based DJI has expanded its commercial lineup steadily in recent years as public safety agencies and infrastructure companies rely increasingly on autonomous aerial inspection. The Matrice series serves as the company's dedicated commercial workhorse, bridging the gap between lightweight consumer drones and bulky multi-rotor heavy-lift platforms.

Triple obstacle detection system

A central feature of the Matrice 5T is a multi-sensor safety suite that the manufacturer states is standard equipment for the first time on a lightweight enterprise drone. The system integrates light detection and ranging, known as LiDAR, alongside millimetre-wave radar and a full-colour omnidirectional visual sensing system.

The three sensor systems operate simultaneously to identify obstacles in the surrounding flight path and maintain safety across diverse environments. The onboard LiDAR unit can detect slender hazards such as overhead power cables at distances of up to 32 metres, even in low-light conditions.

LiDAR works by emitting rapid pulses of laser light and timing how quickly they reflect off physical surfaces, creating precise spatial maps without relying on sunlight. That capability is particularly critical for inspecting energy networks, where thin distribution wires present a major collision hazard for remote pilots.

Radar and low-light visual sensors

To prevent navigation failures when dust or weather obscures the optical cameras, the Matrice 5T carries a dedicated millimetre-wave radar unit. The radar system continues operating through fog, dust, rain, and snow, ensuring the aircraft does not depend solely on visual feeds to evaluate its environment.

Millimetre-wave radar transmits high-frequency radio signals that pass easily through atmospheric moisture and suspended particulate matter. By processing the reflected radio signals, the onboard flight computer can track surrounding structures and terrain even when visible cameras cannot see through heavy precipitation.

For close-range positioning, the drone incorporates a visual array using fisheye cameras that can operate in illumination levels as low as 0.5 lux. This threshold allows the aircraft to maintain steady hovering and positioning accuracy in deep twilight or within poorly lit industrial structures where standard optical sensors lose track of ground features.

Thermal and telephoto camera payload

The imaging hardware on the Matrice 5T is engineered to support a variety of industrial and emergency scenarios. At its core is a high-resolution thermal imaging camera offering a resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels, capable of detecting heat signatures across vast search areas.

Alongside the thermal camera, the payload includes visible-light optical sensors spanning three distinct focal lengths: wide-angle, medium-telephoto, and telephoto. The wide-angle camera can capture full-colour imagery in lighting down to 0.01 lux, giving operators clear situational awareness during nighttime inspection or search operations without requiring external spotlights.

Thermal cameras capture infrared energy radiated by physical objects, translating temperature variations into visible imagery. In industrial work, such sensors allow inspectors to identify overheating electrical transformers, leaking pipelines, or hidden structural hot spots before catastrophic equipment failures occur.

Long-range hybrid zoom and laser rangefinder

For visual inspection of distant infrastructure, the camera module provides 11x optical zoom and up to 176x hybrid zoom. Optical magnification adjusts the physical glass elements inside the lens assembly, preserving sharp image detail without the pixel degradation that occurs with purely software-based enlargement.

The hybrid zoom system combines the optical lenses with digital magnification algorithms, enabling pilots to read serial numbers, assess cracked insulators, or examine suspicious hardware from safe standoff distances.

The sensor head also incorporates a laser rangefinder assisted by near-infrared illumination and dual-light fusion technology. The rangefinder can measure distances to targets up to 3,000 metres away, providing operators with exact spatial positioning data when assessing remote structures, wildfire lines, or isolated victims.

Flight endurance and weather resistance

The aircraft offers a maximum flight endurance of up to 59 minutes on a single battery charge, allowing operators to complete extensive mapping surveys or search grids without frequent landings to swap batteries.

The airframe holds an IP55 ingress protection rating under international electrotechnical standards. This certification confirms that the internal electronics are sealed against harmful dust ingress and protected against low-pressure water jets directed from any angle, permitting flights in steady rain and dusty field conditions.

DJI designed the drone to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius. This broad operational window allows commercial operators to deploy the aircraft in freezing sub-zero winter conditions as well as high-heat desert environments.

The propulsion system features newly designed electric motors that generate nearly double the single-axis thrust of the earlier Matrice 4T model. To mitigate noise in urban or sensitive wildlife environments, the drone uses newly developed biomimetic propellers engineered to keep operational acoustic levels below 80 A-weighted decibels.

Enterprise transmission and commercial release

The Matrice 5T relies on the proprietary DJI O4 Enterprise transmission system for command link and high-definition video streaming. The communication architecture is reinforced by dual 4G cellular modules and support for aerial relays, providing reliable connectivity in challenging operational environments.

Under optimal conditions without radio interference, the O4 Enterprise transmission system can achieve video transmission distances of up to 40 kilometres. The manufacturer notes that actual transmission performance will vary depending on local environmental barriers, electromagnetic interference, and cellular infrastructure.

Sales opened globally on 5 November 2026 through authorized DJI Enterprise distributor networks. While mainland China has an official list price of 57,488 yuan, DJI has not yet announced a uniform global recommended retail price for international territories. Initial vendor listings in European markets sit near 8,600 euros, with the first customer shipments scheduled to begin in late November 2026.
