Disney presented its upcoming theatrical film release schedule through 2029 at the D23 fan event in California, revealing new details, premiere dates and early footage for major animated sequels and original titles. The announcements took place at the Honda Center during the Disney Entertainment Showcase, highlighting project slates from both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios.
The presentations included confirmation of sequels for Frozen, Zootopia, Lilo & Stitch, The Incredibles, Ice Age and Coco, alongside a live-action adaptation of Tangled and a new original Pixar feature set in Hawaii titled Ghost Market.
Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios are American animation production companies operating as subsidiaries of the Walt Disney Studios division of Disney. The biennial D23 convention serves as the company official venue for previewing upcoming film, television and themed entertainment releases.
Frozen sequel leads major announcements
The showcase concluded with a presentation for Frozen 3, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027. Voice actors Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, who perform as Anna and Elsa, took the stage to perform a new version of the song Frozen Heart.
Co-star Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, introduced a new love song titled Ooooh, Samantha, which is dedicated to the character first love interest. Both songs were written by Oscar-winning composition duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Bell, Menzel and Gad revealed new animated footage featuring Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven encountering a new challenge. The preview indicated that the plot introduces a mysterious female villain possessing powers capable of rivaling those of Elsa, opening a new story arc in Arendelle.
Frozen 3 is directed by Oscar winner Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy, with Kristina Chen producing the feature.
Sequels in development for Zootopia and Lilo & Stitch
Disney confirmed that Zootopia 3 is officially in early development at Walt Disney Animation Studios following the box office performance of Zootopia 2. Performers Ginnifer Goodwin, the voice of Judy Hopps, and Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, the voice of Gary De'Snake, announced the project alongside Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation and an Oscar winner.
The presentation featured an exclusive preview scene created specifically for the D23 audience. The release date for Zootopia 3 will be announced at a later date.
The studio also detailed Lilo & Stitch 2, continuing the story following the 2025 live-action feature that Disney reported surpassed 1 billion dollars at the global box office. Actor Maia Kealoha, who portrays Lilo, appeared on stage before screen footage introduced Stitch alongside a pink alien character named Angel.
Production on Lilo & Stitch 2 is scheduled to begin in Hawaii later in 2026, with the theatrical release planned for May 26, 2028. The film is directed by Chris Sanders, who co-wrote, co-directed and voiced Stitch in the original 2002 animated feature.
New animated features for Bluey and Ice Age
Disney unveiled a teaser and poster for The Bluey Movie, the first feature film adaptation of the animated series, scheduled for theatrical premiere on August 6, 2027. The computer-generated film follows Bluey and her family during an action-filled day disrupted by a major surprise.
Series creator Joe Brumm serves as writer and director, with Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack returning as the voices of Chilli and Bandit.
The Ice Age franchise will return to theaters with Ice Age: Boiling Point on February 5, 2027. Performers Queen Latifah and Denis Leary presented an exclusive clip at D23 featuring Scrat, Baby Scrat and a large prehistoric relative named Jurassic Scrat.
The story follows Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Buck into unexplored areas of the Lost World filled with dinosaurs and lava. Returning voice cast members include Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah and Simon Pegg.
Live-action Tangled and Incredibles 3 detailed
A live-action feature adaptation of the 2010 animated film Tangled, based on the Rapunzel fairy tale, is set to open in theaters on March 31, 2028. Kathryn Hahn, cast as Mother Gothel, appeared on stage, while actors Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim sent a video message from Spain where filming is underway for their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
The cast includes Diego Luna as a new character named Hawthorne, Caitríona Balfe as Queen Arianna and Elliot Cowan as King Frederic, with Michael Gracey directing.
Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter introduced a first look at Incredibles 3, scheduled for theatrical release on June 16, 2028. Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Oscar winners Dana Murray and Brad Bird, the film focuses on the superhero family children attempting to prove themselves as heroes. The plot revolves around a narrative concept exploring how not all superheroes act for good.
Coco 2 and original Pixar project Ghost Market
Pixar announced that Coco 2 is planned for release in November 2029, introducing a time jump from the original film. Concept art displayed at D23 depicted the protagonist Miguel as a teenager, while actor Benjamin Bratt appeared on stage as creators confirmed the return of the first film villain, leading Miguel back into the Land of the Dead.
The project reunites the core creative team, with Oscar winner Lee Unkrich directing alongside co-director Adrian Molina. The revealed concept art also showed a reunion between Miguel and Grandma Coco.
Pixar also revealed an original animated project titled Ghost Market, which is scheduled to reach theaters in March 2028. The narrative takes place at 'Ono Market, a small food shop located on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, that caters to lost souls trapped between life and death.
The story begins when a fast-talking child named Kyle accidentally enters the store as the first living human visitor, sparking a supernatural adventure.
Ghost Market is directed by Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews, with Oscar winner Becky Neiman-Cobb producing. A first teaser clip of the project was screened for attendees at the convention.
