Disney+ has canceled its superhero series Wonder Man after a single season, reversing a March announcement that a second season was in development, according to Variety.
Sources told the publication that work on the second season never actually began.
The series followed Simon Williams, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, an actor dreaming of Hollywood success who, after a chance encounter with retired veteran performer Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley, discovers that a new Wonder Man superhero film is being made.
The show earned strong critical praise after its debut, and Abdul-Mateen received an Emmy nomination for best lead actor in a comedy series.
Wonder Man drew 618 million minutes of viewing during its premiere week in late January, according to Nielsen audience data.
