Dimitris Koutsoumpas Denounces High Summer Holiday Costs

Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece, said high transport and accommodation costs are depriving workers of holidays. He highlighted what he called a choice between the needs of the many and the profits of the few.

Koutsoumpas said ticket prices are the main obstacle across the country's thousands of islands. Fuel costs empty wallets, ferry bookings drain bank accounts, and room searches end vacation dreams for millions of workers before travel even begins.

He added that cost, rather than distance, keeps workers from taking time off despite generating record corporate profits all year. Koutsoumpas stated that operating tourism, transport, and leisure for profit forces workers to build paradises for others while being deprived of their own.
