Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met Thessaloniki Mayor Stelios Angeloudis at Maximos Mansion on Wednesday morning to discuss the city's new international fair project. The meeting focused on significant progress made regarding the redevelopment of the Thessaloniki International Fair site for 2030.
Mitsotakis said an international tender has launched that covers the city's needs while accounting for key concerns raised by the municipal administration. He stated that officials can now say with certainty that a new fair will open by 2030, while keeping the existing fair operational during the transition.
The prime minister added that the project delivers a major green space in the city center as originally envisioned. He welcomed Angeloudis to Athens shortly before his own upcoming visit to Thessaloniki following a brief August break.
Metropolitan Park and Agency Cooperation
Angeloudis thanked the prime minister for the reception and collaboration, calling the 120-stremmata metropolitan park the primary demand achieved through the design. He noted that the challenge now is fast implementation to bring the city its largest central redevelopment with the biggest green footprint.
The mayor said local bodies and the municipality must work together to complete the project as quickly as possible. Minister of Interior Theodoros Livanios and Director of the Prime Minister's Office in Macedonia Michalis Bekiris also attended the meeting.
