Sales of new diesel passenger cars in Russia fell 12% in the first half of 2026, with roughly 7,300 units sold compared to the same period a year earlier, according to Sergei Tselikov, head of automotive analytics firm Autostat. Diesel models’ share of the new passenger car market shrank to 1.2%.

BMW led all brands with 1,733 diesel vehicles sold in the first six months of the year. Mercedes-Benz ranked second with 1,075 units, followed by Foton with 632, Great Wall with 567, and Toyota with 567.

The Foton Tunland pickup topped the model rankings with 627 units sold. The BMW X5 placed second with 577, ahead of the GWM Poer with 503, the BMW X7 with 468, and the Mitsubishi L200 with 393.
