Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa and Argentine President Javier Milei signed six bilateral cooperation agreements during an official visit to Quito on Aug. 6. The bilateral meeting took place at Carondelet Palace, where both leaders ratified a common agenda focused on economic development and fighting organized crime.
According to a joint statement released after the meeting, the accords strengthen bilateral ties across security, trade, air transport, nuclear energy, cyberdefense, judicial cooperation, and fishing. Both governments highlighted that the agreements expand cooperation between the two nations.
Extradition and sector deals
The instruments include an extradition treaty providing a legal framework for the reciprocal surrender of individuals wanted by either country's justice system. The treaty aims to strengthen judicial cooperation and counter impunity and transnational organized crime. A cyberdefense agreement signed by the defense ministries includes threat information sharing, training, and creating a bilateral working group.
In the economic sector, an automotive trade agreement sets new terms for vehicle and auto parts trade through tariff preferences, rules of origin, and market access mechanisms. An updated air services agreement introduces operational flexibility to boost air commercial ties, connectivity, trade, and tourism between Ecuador and Argentina.
The two governments also signed a nuclear energy cooperation agreement promoting joint research, scientific exchange, human talent training, and peaceful nuclear applications. Finally, a binational declaration targets illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing through information exchange, institutional strengthening, and coordinated marine resource management.
