Apple has unveiled an all-new iPad mini featuring an OLED screen, describing the device as the biggest update in the compact tablet's history.

The tablet is the first compact model from the company equipped with a Super Retina XDR OLED display. Narrower bezels allow the screen size to expand from 8.3 inches to 8.5 inches, while peak brightness reaches 1,200 nits, which is double that of the previous generation.
The panel delivers deeper black levels and higher contrast alongside a 60 Hz refresh rate. Apple has also introduced a nano-texture glass option to reduce glare under harsh lighting, while a minimum brightness level of one nit allows comfortable viewing in the dark.
OLED displays rely on organic light-emitting diodes that illuminate each pixel individually rather than using a shared backlight. Because unlit pixels emit zero light, the technology achieves true black tones and superior contrast ratios, qualities long valued in high-end consumer electronics.
Chassis Design and Water Resistance
The iPad mini body has been slimmed down to 5.4 millimetres. The device also gains an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, marking the first time any iPad has achieved this certification. Apple reached this standard by adopting an acoustic display that builds the speakers directly into the screen.
An IP67 rating indicates that a device is fully sealed against dust and can withstand water immersion up to one metre deep for thirty minutes. While smartphones have featured such protection for years, tablets have traditionally omitted water resistance due to acoustic vents and larger chassis openings.

Inside, the device runs on Apple's new A20 Pro processor, built on a 2-nanometer process. The chip is identical to the one found in the iPhone 18 Pro, and Apple stated that it delivers a noticeable improvement in graphics performance and artificial intelligence operations.
The tablet operates on iPadOS 27 and supports Apple Intelligence alongside the Siri digital assistant.
Apple also relocated the front-facing 12-megapixel Center Stage camera to the long edge of the chassis, creating a more natural camera angle for landscape video calls and meetings. An adaptive True Tone flash has been added to improve photo capture and document scanning.
Pricing, Release Dates, and New Macs
Pre-orders for the new tablet open on October 28, with retail sales beginning on November 6. Configurations come in 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB capacities. Pricing starts at $699, or around 31,000 Ukrainian hryvnias, while the nano-texture glass edition starts at $849, approximately 38,000 hryvnias. Color choices are limited to gold and gray.
The announcement is part of a broader series of hardware reveals scheduled from October 26 through October 28. Apple plans to introduce a new iMac with an M6 chip and an updated MacBook Pro on Tuesday, followed on Wednesday by its first touchscreen MacBook Pro.
Those presentations follow several hardware debuts in mid-October, when Apple unveiled its HomeView smart home hub, a refreshed Apple TV 4K box with an A19 chip, and the HomePod mini 2 speaker.
