Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have split after nine years of marriage, the two actors confirmed in a joint statement to People magazine.
Seyfried and Sadoski said in their statement that they had been separated for some time and that it had proven to be the right decision for them and their family. They added that they would always have each other and that this was a good thing.
Seyfried, 40, is known for films including "Mamma Mia!," "Mean Girls" and "Les Miserables." Sadoski, 50, is known for the television series "The Newsroom."
How the couple met
Seyfried and Sadoski met in 2015 while co-starring in the off-Broadway play "The Way We Get By." The same year, they worked together again on the film "The Last Word," in which they played a couple.
By the spring of the following year, their on-screen chemistry had turned into a real relationship. People confirmed in March 2016 that the two were a couple.
A secret wedding
The couple got engaged later in 2016 and married secretly in March 2017. Sadoski said at the time that they had eloped, going to the countryside with someone who performed the ceremony, and that it had just been the two of them doing what they wanted.
He said it had been beautiful and that everything had been as it should be, with just the two of them talking to each other.
Children and family life
Just days after their wedding, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Nina. In September 2020, they welcomed a son, Thomas Jr.
Throughout their marriage, Seyfried and Sadoski largely kept their family life away from the public eye, choosing a quieter life on a farm in New York State. The actress occasionally shared glimpses of their daily life, showing their family and their animals.
