A 23-year-old man in the Altai Krai region of Russia will stand trial for murder after shooting his father in the head with a shotgun following a family dispute.

According to law enforcement officials, the victim and his son had been involved in a long-standing personal conflict prior to the shooting. The father had repeatedly criticized his 23-year-old son over his inability to secure a good job and his consumption of alcohol.

The fatal incident occurred in late December 2025, when the young man went to visit his father at his home. Another argument broke out between the two men during the visit, prompting the suspect to grab a shotgun and fire a shot into his father's head. The injury was fatal, and the victim died at the scene.

Murder Charges and Judicial Review

Investigators subsequently charged the 23-year-old defendant under Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the statute governing murder offenses. Officials stated that the investigative team gathered a sufficient evidentiary base to send the case to court for consideration on its merits.

Altai Krai is a federal subject of Russia situated in southern Western Siberia, bordering Kazakhstan, with its administrative center in Barnaul. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation operates as the country's primary federal agency tasked with investigating serious crimes, including homicide.

Under the Russian legal framework, Article 105 of the Criminal Code defines murder as the intentional causation of death to another person. Lenta.ru, which published the statement from regional authorities, is an established online news organization based in Moscow that regularly reports on Russian judicial and criminal proceedings.
