Akeem Morris, the partner of American singer Madonna, has published a series of photos and videos on social media documenting their recent vacation across Greece. The post follows several updates previously shared by Madonna herself highlighting her birthday celebrations and travels in the country.

The 30-year-old former football player shared images showing moments spent with the pop star and their companions. Morris accompanied the uploaded media with Zorba, the famous composition by Greek musician Mikis Theodorakis. In the caption of his Instagram post, Morris included a message written in Greek using Latin characters, spelling out Se agapo to express his affection.

Travel itinerary across Greece

The couple visited several iconic destinations during their time in Greece. On the Aegean island of Patmos, Madonna expressed deep spiritual feelings about her visit, writing on social media that she felt the presence of God while on the island.

During her stay on Corfu, Madonna celebrated her birthday in a local village, where she enjoyed traditional Greek dishes and local music. Festivities also took place at a traditional eatery known as a mezedopoleio, where she danced with a tambourine in hand, and aboard a boat where she blew out candles on a birthday cake.

Local reports indicated that a priest had been waiting for the singer at a church on Corfu, although she ultimately did not visit the venue. In a caption accompanying her birthday photos from the island, Madonna advised her followers to eat, pray, love, drink, dance, and break dishes, later posting on August 22 to explain that her holiday in Greece held special significance for her.

Public reaction and commentary

The high-profile visit sparked considerable discussion among public figures and media commentators in Greece. Greek politician Adonis Georgiadis and lawmaker Elena Akrita engaged in a public debate concerning the singer's trip and the surrounding media reaction.

Greek fashion designer Vassilios Kostetsos commented on photos of Madonna visiting religious sites, suggesting that prominent devout Greek women could learn from how the singer dressed when visiting monasteries. Meanwhile, television presenter Roula Koromila publicly praised Madonna for her visit to Greece, offering her respect to the pop star.

Background on Greek destinations and music

Meteora, located in central Greece, is famous for its precipitous rock formations topped by historic Eastern Orthodox monasteries. Patmos, situated in the southeastern Aegean Sea, holds historic significance in Christian tradition as the location where Saint John wrote the Book of Revelation. Corfu is an island in the Ionian Sea known for its Venetian architecture, historic heritage, and Mediterranean coastline.

Mikis Theodorakis, who died in 2021, was one of the most prominent Greek composers of the 20th century. His instrumental composition Zorba's Dance, created for the 1964 film Zorba the Greek, remains one of the most widely recognized pieces of Greek music in the world.
