Russian actor Leonid Rudoy, best known for his role in the television series Ivan the Terrible, died on the night of August 16 at the age of 80 following a long illness in Vologda, Russia.
His death was announced on the social network VKontakte by representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Vologda Region.

Rudoy held the title of People's Artist of Russia, an honorary designation awarded for outstanding performance achievements in the country.
Tributes from regional culture ministry
Ministry officials praised Rudoy as a prominent figure in the cultural life of the Vologda region, describing him as a brilliant and distinctive actor who represented the famed Russian realistic acting school.
They noted that he dedicated the majority of his creative career to the Vologda Drama Theatre, performing in more than 100 roles on its stage over several decades.
According to regional culture officials, age and health problems prevented Rudoy from performing on stage in recent years, though he remained actively engaged with the theatre community until his death.
The ministry stated that details regarding the memorial service and farewell ceremony for the actor will be announced at a later date.
Career on stage and screen
Vologda, an administrative centre located approximately 500 kilometres north of Moscow, served as the primary hub of Rudoy's long theatrical career.
Rudoy graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, known as GITIS, which is Russia's oldest and largest theatre academy located in Moscow.
Early in his career, he worked for an extended period at the Kaliningrad Regional Drama Theatre in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad, and later served at the Grodno Drama Theatre in Belarus.
He returned to Vologda in 1994, where he established himself as a leading stage actor. Over his years with the company, many of his roles were recognised with regional and international awards.
Beyond his extensive theatrical portfolio, Rudoy gained national recognition in 2009 for his portrayal of Archbishop Pimen in the popular historical television series Ivan the Terrible.
