Russian defense manufacturer ZALA Group has presented its Lancet-E reconnaissance and strike drone system at the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 in Egypt. The export-grade unmanned military hardware is currently being demonstrated to international delegations at the Egyptian aviation event.
The manufacturer announced the debut of the export complex in a post on its official Telegram channel. The system, designated as a reconnaissance and strike complex, combines the Z-16E reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle with two types of loitering munitions, the Izdeliye-51E and the Izdeliye-52E.
ZALA stated that Z-16 reconnaissance drones and Lancet loitering munitions are actively used by personnel from the Russian Ministry of Defence Africa Corps. The company added that the equipment has demonstrated its operational capability in climatically difficult environments across the region.
Drone technology and export variants
ZALA Group, based in Izhevsk, Russia, is a prominent developer of unmanned aerial systems and loitering munitions. Loitering munitions, frequently referred to as suicide or kamikaze drones, combine surveillance capabilities with an integrated explosive payload, allowing the aircraft to loiter above a target area until an operator or guidance system selects an objective.
In Russian defense nomenclature, the letter E designation typically indicates hardware configured specifically for foreign export markets. Within the Lancet-E complex, the Z-16E reconnaissance drone provides real-time aerial surveillance and target identification, allowing operators to locate objectives before launching the accompanying loitering munitions.
ZALA noted that engineers regularly update the technical capabilities of the Lancet system. Reports published earlier in September showed that drones within the Lancet reconnaissance and strike complex are capable of finding opposing forces even during conditions of limited visibility. The manufacturer confirmed the complex features an intelligent targeting and recognition system designed to identify hidden objects using isolated visible details.
