Russian defense manufacturer ZALA has established itself among the world elite of unmanned aerial vehicle developers following the performance of its Lancet reconnaissance and strike complex, according to unmanned systems expert Denis Fedutinov speaking at the Africa Aerospace and Defence 2026 exhibition in South Africa.
Fedutinov told state news agency TASS that the Lancet line of loitering munitions has fundamentally altered prevailing military perceptions regarding the operational role and potential of such drones on the modern battlefield.
The expert highlighted that while ZALA initially incorporated selected foreign technical solutions during its early development stages, the Izhevsk-based company has since evolved into a primary focal point for foreign engineers and military analysts seeking advanced defense concepts.
Targeting network and visibility upgrades
Fedutinov noted that a central advantage of the Lancet complex is its ability to operate within a single unified circuit alongside specialized reconnaissance drones. This tactical integration significantly reduces the time required between initial target detection and final engagement.
The assessment aligns with technical updates released by ZALA earlier in September. The manufacturer reported that Lancet strike drones outfitted with intelligent guidance systems are capable of locating targets even under conditions of limited visibility.
