A 35-year-old man faces trial in Volgograd after allegedly pouring flammable liquid on a female acquaintance and setting her on fire in a residential courtyard.
The regional management of the Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed that prosecutors have charged the suspect with attempted murder committed with particular cruelty.
The attack occurred on July 5 following a quarrel between the suspect and the woman, whom he had met only recently. Authorities reported that the man was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
According to investigators, the suspect poured flammable liquid over the victim before using a lighter to set her ablaze. Passers-by who witnessed the flames immediately summoned emergency medical services. Paramedics transported the woman to a hospital with extensive burns, where doctors successfully saved her life.
