Russian missile strikes destroyed major logistics complexes and retail warehouses across Kyiv and Brovary on the night of August 5, killing six workers.
The attack damaged facilities belonging to prominent Ukrainian companies, including Rozetka, Epicentr, Nova Poshta, Novus, and Silpo. Six employees died in fires at two Silpo distribution centers, while Novus suffered several direct missile hits on its logistics hub.
In Brovary, the strikes destroyed the largest warehouse of online retailer Rozetka. The bombardment also destroyed two large warehouse complexes and a ceramic factory belonging to Epicentr, alongside a Nova Poshta sorting center in Kyiv.
Impact on consumer prices
Ukrainian businesses will eventually pass these logistics losses on to consumers through higher retail prices, economist Oleh Pendzin told UNIAN. He noted that strong market competition currently prevents immediate price spikes, but price tags will likely rise closer to winter.
Pendzin explained that food prices were already set to increase this autumn due to higher farming costs, Black Sea grain export issues, and financial losses among agricultural producers. He added that logistics damage will accelerate broader inflation during the third and fourth quarters.
Supply shortages and delivery delays
Financial analyst Andriy Shevchyshyn warned that consumers should prepare for potential shortages, delivery delays, and price increases across items ranging from household chemicals to pet food. He advised citizens to store several weeks of basic food supplies.
Shevchyshyn stated that businesses are turning to longer import routes with higher storage costs. He added that small retailers are already reporting wholesale price increases from suppliers.
