The National Bank of Ukraine strengthened the hryvnia for Friday, August 28, setting the official exchange rate at 44.54 hryvnias per US dollar.
According to data on the regulator's website, the Ukrainian currency gained 3 kopiyky against the dollar compared to its previous level. The hryvnia also posted gains against the euro, rising by 15 kopiyky to reach an official rate of 51.86 hryvnias per euro for Friday.
On the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market, trading quotes for the dollar settled between 44.55 and 44.58 hryvnias per dollar by 4 p.m. Interbank quotes for the euro were established at 51.88 to 51.90 hryvnias per euro over the same period.
Commercial bank exchange rates
In commercial banks across Ukraine on August 27, the average exchange rate for the US dollar dropped by 4 kopiyky to 44.88 hryvnias per dollar. Ukrainian citizens looking to sell dollars to commercial banks received an average rate of 44.42 hryvnias per dollar.
The average commercial bank exchange rate for the euro fell by 6 kopiyky to 52.33 hryvnias per euro on August 27. Commercial lenders bought euros from members of the public at an average rate of 51.70 hryvnias per euro.
PrivatBank foreign exchange figures
At PrivatBank, Ukraine's largest commercial lender, the dollar exchange rate fell by 10 kopiyky on August 27 to 44.75 hryvnias per dollar. Customers selling American currency at the bank received 44.15 hryvnias per dollar.
The bank also reduced its euro rate by 10 kopiyky, bringing it to 52.35 hryvnias per euro. PrivatBank purchased European currency from customers at a rate of 51.35 hryvnias per euro.

The National Bank of Ukraine functions as the country's central monetary authority, operating from Kyiv to manage official exchange rates and financial market regulation. The hryvnia, which is divided into 100 kopiyky, moves based on official regulator fixes, interbank currency trading volumes, and retail rates set by commercial banking institutions.
