Ukraine's national currency will trade between 44.7 and 45.4 hryvnias per US dollar in September, according to Taras Liesovyi, director of financial markets at Globus Bank.
For the first week of September, running through September 6, the dollar exchange rate is expected to remain between 44.6 and 45.1 hryvnias, while the euro will trade within a band of 51 to 52.5 hryvnias, Liesovyi told Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.
At those rates, purchasing 100 US dollars will cost Ukrainians between 4,470 and 4,540 hryvnias, while 1,000 US dollars will cost between 44,700 and 45,400 hryvnias. Liesovyi stressed that while exchange rate fluctuations may prove stronger in early autumn than during the summer months, Ukrainians should not expect the hryvnia to lose its overall stability, as the movement simply reflects a search for a new equilibrium point.
Factors driving autumn exchange rate swings
Addressing concerns over the wider trading ranges, Liesovyi explained that the fluctuation boundaries should be understood as evidence of controlled flexibility rather than a threat of sharp devaluation. He identified military risks, the current state of foreign trade, and substantial currency demand from commercial importers as the main drivers behind the rate shifts at the start of autumn.
