Teri Hatcher to Play Miranda Priestly in West End Musical

American actress Teri Hatcher will star as fashion magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly in the West End musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada in London.

Hatcher will take over the lead role in October following the departure of Vanessa Williams, who gives her final performance in the production this month, according to People magazine. Hatcher is scheduled to perform as Miranda through February 6, 2027.

Speaking about taking on the role, Hatcher said she felt fortunate to have played several impressive women throughout her career, but noted that very few could compare to Miranda Priestly. She expressed immense excitement about joining the London cast, describing the iconic character as smart, commanding, and hilarious, with a distinct knack for putting people in their place.

Hatcher added that Miranda's dialogue remained unforgettable and described her unwavering confidence as contagious. She emphasized that such commanding figures are precisely the kind of roles actors love to play.

Stage and Screen Career

The role marks a major return to the musical stage for Hatcher, who achieved global fame for her performance as Susan Mayer in the hit television drama Desperate Housewives. She previously made her musical theatre debut starring as Sally Bowles in the national tour of director Sam Mendes's revival of Cabaret, and recently portrayed Morticia Addams in the film The Addams Family.

The musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada is based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 best-selling novel and the popular 2006 feature film. The movie adaptation starred Meryl Streep as Miranda, alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

Story and West End Production

The narrative follows aspiring young journalist Andy Sachs after she lands a competitive job as a personal assistant to Miranda, the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway fashion magazine.

London's West End represents the center of commercial theatre in the United Kingdom, hosting long-running musicals and major stage adaptations in the heart of the capital. Hatcher will succeed Williams in leading the production at its London theater home through early 2027.

Northern Heights

Williams finishes her stage run as Miranda Priestly later this month before Hatcher steps into the high-fashion editorial office when performances resume under her lead in October.
