Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos has announced the inclusion of funding for the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation in the Sectoral Development Program of the Ministry of Development for 2026 to 2030. He made the announcement during a meeting with foundation leadership and government officials.
Those present included Dimitris Vergados, president of the plenary of the foundation, Georgia Andreou, president of its scientific council, and Giorgos Karydakis, its director. Dimitris Terzis, the secretary general for research and innovation, also attended the meeting.
The minister's decision forms part of a broader plan to boost research and innovation. The strategy emphasizes applying scientific knowledge, linking research to production, and building new growth opportunities through transparent procedures and project evaluation.
Ministry Priorities and Partnership Goals
Following the meeting, Theodorikakos said the government supports research, innovation, and researchers through planned actions to transform the economy, increase productivity, boost competitiveness, and strengthen social cohesion. He stated that programming details for the 2026 to 2030 plan will be set in cooperation with foundation management so research funds yield clear results transparently.
He added that immediate priorities include building a national digital repository for research output to share results more effectively. The plan also prioritizes creating flagship centers of excellence and innovation through partnerships among universities, research institutes, and businesses to generate competitive products and services benefiting the economy and society.
