Spider-Man: Brand New Day Sells Out Dominican Cinemas

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the new Marvel film starring Tom Holland, has sold out theaters across Santo Domingo just three days after its release. Fans packed screenings at the Agora Mall, Galeria 360 and Sambil cinema complexes, according to a tour of the venues by Diario Libre.

Long lines formed for tickets and popcorn as families, groups of friends and fans of the character arrived wearing Spider-Man t-shirts, jackets and other themed items while waiting for showtimes to begin.

Tickets sold out in presale

A Caribbean Cinemas employee said the high demand caused screenings to sell out during presales, with most tickets bought online. The employee said theaters began filling up from the earliest showtimes and that additional screenings had to be added to meet demand.

The employee said the situation was the same everywhere, including at Megacentro, Galeria 360, Agora and Downtown, with no location spared from the sellouts.

Fans traveled to see the film

Among the moviegoers was Jonathan Romero, who traveled from San Cristobal to see the film and said he was eager to see the new chapter of the character played by Tom Holland. Romero said he and others bought their tickets online a couple of days in advance, noting how quickly the opening screenings sold out.

Angel Percel, another moviegoer, said Spider-Man is his favorite superhero and that he had been looking forward to the film, adding that he knows that with great power comes great responsibility. Percel said he tried to get tickets but found every screening sold out, and that he was waiting to see if the cinema would open another theater so he could get in.
