Construction has started in Madrid on Shakira's eight-pavilion venue for 12 concerts concluding her record-breaking world tour.

Shakira Begins Construction on Madrid Concert Residency

Construction has begun on a custom temporary city for Shakira's upcoming 12-concert residency in Madrid, organizers announced on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The massive installation is being assembled at the Iberdrola Music venue in the Villaverde district of Madrid. Scheduled to open on September 18, 2026, the month-long residency will mark the final European leg of her global concert tour.

The site features eight specialized pavilions designed to form Mundo Macondo, an immersive experience based on magical realism and the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude by Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Alberto Rivas, the festival director and head of production, detailed the setup during a walkthrough with journalists at the venue. Rivas said it is the first time an installation of this size, budget, and duration has been created for a concert residency.

Immersive Pavilions and Venue Layout

Each of the eight pavilions in Mundo Macondo focuses on a specific cultural theme, spanning gastronomy, music, art, and literature. Distinctly colored pathways direct visitors through the venue, leading toward a central plaza anchored by a representation of the Macondo tree.

Rivas explained that the paths function like tree branches to connect the different zones into a romantic narrative. The entire project operates under the umbrella concept Es Latina, which also incorporates featured performances by Spanish guest artists.

The gastronomy area, situated in a fuchsia-colored pavilion, will feature food trucks, fixed food stalls, and an infinite table designed for collective dining.

A fashion pavilion will exhibit clothing and jewelry from Latin brands, accompanied by an elevated lookout deck. The fan zone will showcase official merchandise alongside iconic dresses worn by the Colombian singer in her music videos. A dedicated area called Macondito will host children, while the literature pavilion recreates the private library from Shakira's home.

To accommodate large crowds, the venue includes six modules of demountable grandstands. Combined with the open floor area, the facility will have a total capacity of 50,000 spectators per performance.

Conclusion of Record-Breaking World Tour

The 12 Madrid performances will mark the conclusion of Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which has established itself as the highest-grossing Latin concert tour in history. The tour set landmark attendance records, drawing 400,000 fans to the Zocalo in Mexico City in March and more than two million attendees to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Shakira arrives in Madrid following a one-month rest period after wrapping up her North American tour leg on July 25 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. During that leg, she also performed the official tournament song Dai Dai at halftime during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New York and New Jersey in July.

Following her tour commitments, the singer is scheduled to rebuild the Technological University of Choco and ten schools in Colombia that were damaged in a recent earthquake.
