The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable smartphone withstood a bend test but remains vulnerable to screen scratches, according to tech blogger JerryRigEverything. Testing the device on his YouTube channel, the gadget durability enthusiast reported that while the phone is stronger than earlier models, foldable smartphones remain fairly fragile.
JerryRigEverything found that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a soft folding screen made of a material Samsung calls Flex Titanium. The display is fragile enough that scratches and streaks can be left on it simply by running a fingernail across the surface.
Durability and pricing
The protective glass on the back panel performed better, proving about as durable as glass on standard smartphones. Samsung also strengthened the hinge connecting the two halves of the device, which withstood JerryRigEverything's attempt to break the phone by bending it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is among the most expensive smartphones sold by Samsung, with prices in the United States starting at $1,900, or 156,000 rubles.
Display issues on Galaxy S26 Ultra
In early August, Samsung responded to complaints regarding reddened displays on Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphones. The company refused to consider the issue a defect and promised to fix it through service centers.
