Grad multiple launch rocket system crews of the Russian Armed Forces have mastered a fire carousel tactic to reduce the risk of being hit by return fire, Izvestia reported, citing sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Rocket artillery crews operate in trios during combat. While one vehicle fires at targets, a second vehicle reloads, and a third vehicle changes position.
This rotation allows crews to strike area targets and precise objectives while protecting themselves against enemy counter-battery fire and drones. Sources told the newspaper that the tactic has been well practiced in the special military operation zone, where mobile firing groups cover the launcher vehicles to intercept enemy drones.
Sarma rocket system
In May, Rostec State Corporation CEO Sergey Chemezov reported that the Sarma multiple launch rocket system can fire a full salvo in 18 seconds. Deliveries of the Sarma system to troops began in 2025.
