Russia has taken possession of more than 100 properties formerly belonging to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, an organisation banned in the country as extremist. The Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow ordered the seizure of the assets in favour of the state, according to the press service of Moscow’s courts of general jurisdiction.
The court ruled invalid a donation agreement between the Jehovah’s Witnesses of Togliatti and the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sweden. The Swedish branch had previously held 123 properties, comprising 63 residential and commercial units and 60 land plots located in Moscow and 20 other Russian regions.
Earlier court proceedings had already transferred three properties in central Moscow from the group to the state, including a three-storey building on Mikhalkovskaya Street measuring more than 3,000 square metres, as well as two apartments and a basement unit in Lukovy Pereulok totalling 243 square metres.
