Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado of the Social Democratic Party highlighted the use of artificial intelligence to expand autonomy for people with disabilities during a campaign event on Paulista Avenue in São Paulo.
Speaking to supporters along the landmark avenue, Caiado stated that technological developments in software and artificial intelligence serve to minimize daily challenges and improve quality of life for individuals with disabilities. He also called for comprehensive public policies aimed at supporting mothers caring for children with specialized medical conditions.
Senator Mara Gabrilli, a fellow Social Democratic Party member representing São Paulo state, reinforced the candidate focus on assistive technology. Gabrilli explained that modern technology can integrate people with disabilities into the labor market, bringing marginalized individuals out of invisibility so they can join sectors such as agribusiness.
Illustrating the impact of proper equipment, Gabrilli noted that life improves for everyone when it improves for disabled citizens, describing the advancement as a leap in quality for humanity. Gabrilli, a long-serving politician and activist for disability rights in the Brazilian Senate, joined Caiado to emphasize accessibility during campaign stops across the city.
Support for Families and Rare Diseases
Caiado sharply criticized the current lack of government assistance for families following a child's medical diagnosis. He pointed out that mothers raising children with complex needs often feel lost without guidance on where to turn or how to access recommended treatments. The candidate pledged to develop policy measures that guarantee social protection and dignity for these women.
The term atypical mothers is widely used in Brazil to describe women raising children diagnosed with autism, rare diseases, or physical disabilities. Families across the country frequently encounter bureaucratic barriers and limited access to specialized care when seeking post-diagnosis treatment and therapies.
Healthcare Funding and Urban Infrastructure
To address healthcare gaps, Caiado advocated establishing a dedicated federal budget specifically earmarked for research into rare diseases and the distribution of high-cost medications. He stated that dedicated funding is essential to ensure that families receive timely medical interventions.
Caiado also emphasized the need for direct partnerships between the federal government, state governors, and city mayors to modernize urban infrastructure. He stated that joint government projects are necessary to implement tactile paving, proper sidewalk maintenance, and fully accessible public transportation systems across Brazilian cities.
