Revolut has acquired a French banking licence as it steps up its expansion across Europe, while also eyeing the United States.
The fintech was granted the licence by the ACPR banking regulator and the European Central Bank. That means Revolut can now offer French customers a wider range of loans, mortgages and savings products.
US and UK ambitions
London-based Revolut is also hoping to secure a licence in the US this year. That follows its move in March to become a fully fledged UK bank after years of negotiations.
Paris to become western hub
The firm has clashed with European regulators since it secured a banking licence in Lithuania in 2018. Revolut now plans to make Paris its Western Europe headquarters as it shifts customers away from its Eastern hub.
