A Reddit user known as Natureresider_88 became the subject of online mockery after complaining about cooking ten containers of tasteless chili.
The user posted on the platform to complain about a recipe that left her with a large batch of unpalatable food, but her post drew sarcastic responses instead of sympathy.
She explained that she had found a high-protein slow cooker chili recipe online and spent about 40 dollars, equivalent to approximately 3,500 Russian rubles, to prepare a large batch of the meal.
After cooking the food, she filled 10 storage containers, placed them in her refrigerator, and reported feeling truly invincible.
Her experience changed on Monday when she tried her first forkful of the meal while at work. She described the food as having no flavor at all, comparing the texture to chewing wet beans.
Discovery of the missing ingredient
Upon returning home, she re-read the recipe instructions and discovered to her horror that the creator of the recipe had omitted salt entirely because they do not consume it.
Despite her disappointment, she continued eating the flavorless meal because she was unwilling to throw her 40 dollar investment into the trash.
Reddit is a popular American social news aggregation and discussion website where users share content and participate in community forums known as subreddits. High-protein meal preparation and slow cooker recipes are widely shared on the platform by home cooks looking to prepare food in advance for the work week.
Caustic responses from community members
Rather than offering sympathy, other visitors to the forum responded to her post with sharp criticism and sarcasm.
One user asked with bewilderment why she could not simply add salt to the food herself. A second commenter sarcastically remarked that it would be helpful if a person could sprinkle something onto food after cooking.
A third commenter mocked her further, joking that ancient Mayan texts mentioned that salt could be purchased and added to food after preparation. The commenter added sarcastically that if the Mayans had been smart enough to do so, they might still be alive today, before suggesting she continue eating the chili as it was.
Resolving the meal prep issue
The woman ultimately followed the advice of the commenters and added salt to her cooked chili. She admitted that learning she could season the food after it was cooked came as a complete revelation to her.
In an update to her original post, she wrote that she was standing in her kitchen holding a container of salt as if it were alien technology. She thanked the users for the advice while jokingly adding that she hated them all for their responses.
