Peru State Attorney General María Caruajulca Quispe has sworn in 25 public prosecutors and 25 deputy public prosecutors to bolster the legal defense of state institutions.
The official swearing-in ceremony was held at the Institutional Auditorium of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the capital city of Lima.
The newly appointed state attorneys will serve across multiple public entities, including the Ministry of Culture, the National Infrastructure Authority, the Regional Government of Callao, and several provincial and district municipal offices.
Under Peruvian law, public prosecutors are legally authorized to represent individuals or public institutions in judicial proceedings. Their primary role involves investigating and reporting cases where the state is the affected party.
Legal defense system
During the ceremony, Caruajulca said that protecting the state legally and contributing to the strengthening of national institutions was an honor and a duty requiring commitment, continuous preparation, and a deep vocation for service.
The event was attended by Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ernesto Álvarez Miranda, alongside senior authorities from the entities receiving the new prosecutors. Municipal leaders present included Lince Mayor Malca Schnaiderman and Breña Mayor Luis Felipe de la Matta.
The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights serves as the executive department responsible for advising the government on legal affairs and maintaining public defense standards throughout Peru.
Institutional coverage
The newly assigned prosecutors will take up positions across several key executive bodies and regional authorities. The Ministry of Culture manages cultural heritage policy and indigenous affairs, while the National Infrastructure Authority plans and executes major public works projects across the country.
The appointments also extend coverage to local government jurisdictions in the capital region. Lince and Breña are central urban districts within Lima, while Callao is a constitutional province located on the Pacific coast that contains Peru's main seaport and international airport.
Strengthening public governance
The Procuraduría General del Estado stated that the addition of the 50 legal professionals strengthens the State Legal Defense System, supporting the rule of law and the protection of national interests.
The General State Procurator's Office operates as an autonomous public body responsible for directing, guiding, and monitoring legal defense efforts across all government sectors. The latest induction follows a selection process that brought together nearly 300 legal experts across Peru.
The new prosecutors and deputy prosecutors will now assume their positions across their assigned ministries, regional offices, and municipal departments to handle ongoing legal representations for the state.
