Cristhian Flores, the brother of late Armonía 10 singer Paul Flores, has rejected defense claims that the musician's death was a crime of passion. Speaking after recent judicial hearings in Peru, Flores expressed outrage at defense lawyers representing the suspects in the case, accusing them of attempting to divert the focus of the investigation.
In statements to the television programme América Hoy, Flores said that attorneys for the accused had questioned the private relationship between his brother, known as El Ruso, and the singer's widow, Carolina Jaramillo. He explained that defense counsel pressed during the hearings for details on whether the couple had experienced mistreatment, personal differences, or marital problems prior to the fatal attack.
The statements follow an emotional court hearing in which Carolina Jaramillo broke down in tears after revealing that she had been accused of involvement in an alleged crime of passion or femicide against her late husband. She denied any wrongdoing, stating that the accusations against her were entirely untrue.

Flores maintained that inquiries into the couple's domestic life were intended to delay the trial and complicate the judicial process. He said defense lawyers were attempting to introduce the possibility of a motive based on passion or revenge to steer the investigation away from the suspects.
Defense questioning over hospital route
Flores also criticized another argument presented by one of the lawyers representing the investigated individuals, which centered on the decisions made immediately following the attack. He noted that the defense had questioned why the driver who transported Paul Flores after the assault took him to a specific hospital rather than a nearer medical facility.
According to Flores, such questions regarding the driver's route are designed to stall the legal proceedings rather than clarify what happened during the attack itself.
Background on Paul Flores and Armonía 10
Paul Flores was a leading vocalist for Armonía 10, one of the most prominent groups in Peruvian cumbia music. Founded in Piura in the 1970s, Armonía 10 has earned national recognition and a widespread Latin American following with its rhythmic orchestral performances.
América Hoy is a daily morning news and entertainment show on Peru's América Televisión network that regularly features interviews with figures involved in ongoing judicial and public interest cases.
The judicial investigation into the death of Paul Flores remains ongoing as the court continues to examine testimony from family members and legal counsel for the suspects.
