The Armed Forces of Ukraine are using software developed by American technology firm Palantir Technologies to plan long-range strikes inside Russia, according to a Russian military expert cited by state news agency TASS.
Alexander Stepanov, a military analyst at the Institute of Law and National Security of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, told TASS that Ukrainian forces rely on Palantir's PRISMA software package. He said the system automatically analyzes large datasets to identify potential targets for operators to verify and attack.
Stepanov assessed Palantir as a key player in the implementation of artificial intelligence solutions for military operations. Artificial intelligence tools in military targeting process satellite imagery, radio signals, and reconnaissance data to help commanders coordinate strikes.
Targeting technology and data analysis
Palantir Technologies is an American software company based in Denver, Colorado, that specializes in big data analytics. Founded in 2003 by chief executive Alex Karp and investor Peter Thiel, the firm builds data integration platforms used extensively by government, military, and intelligence agencies.
The Institute of Law and National Security operates within the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, known as RANEPA. The Moscow-based state university provides policy analysis and research for Russian federal institutions.
Russian observers previously raised concerns over the technology. In May, the prominent Russian military Telegram channel Voenniy Osvedomitel warned that expanding cooperation between Kyiv and Palantir posed a serious threat to Russian security.
Deepening defense industry ties
That warning followed a high-level meeting in May between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Palantir chief executive Alex Karp. Following the talks, Zelensky said that Kyiv was actively developing its cooperation with the United States defense sector.
Zelensky has led Ukraine since 2019 and has repeatedly sought advanced military technology and software integration from Western defense companies to enhance national defense capabilities.
TASS is Russia's primary state-owned news agency, headquartered in Moscow, which regularly publishes official government statements, military reports, and expert security analyses.
