Ukrainian attorney Oleksandra Nikitina warned business leaders in a financial column published by LIGA.net on September 3, 2026, that legal asset distribution alone fails to guarantee long term family wealth succession.
Writing for the Ukrainian news outlet, Nikitina said entrepreneurs spend years learning how to build capital but rarely take time to consider how that wealth will be managed in the future.
She explained that an asset management system may function smoothly while a founder directly controls the business, knows every adviser, retains contract terms, and maintains the overall asset framework. However, operational difficulties arise as families grow, assets shift into multiple foreign jurisdictions, children reach adulthood, and decision volumes exceed what one individual can manage.
Nikitina stressed that capital does not create natural continuity on its own. She noted that while founders can legally transfer corporate entities, divide assets among heirs, and organize bank accounts, paperwork does not automatically pass along decision logic, personal responsibility, trust, or a shared vision for the business.
Family offices and wealth management
A family office operates as a private financial advisory firm designed to handle the comprehensive needs of high net worth families. Unlike traditional investment services that focus primarily on portfolio management and capital growth, a family office coordinates tax planning, legal structures, philanthropic initiatives, and multi generational asset governance.
Managing assets across multiple legal jurisdictions introduces regulatory hurdles, including conflicting inheritance tax structures and foreign property rules. Wealth managers typically recommend establishing formal family charters and clear advisory frameworks to guide successor generations when navigating international estate transfers.
Legal commentary and media platform
LIGA.net is an independent Ukrainian news and analysis platform established in 1997, featuring business coverage, economic reporting, and legal commentary from industry experts. Nikitina contributed the opinion piece to highlight broader challenges facing Ukrainian founders as private wealth matures.
Nikitina concluded that business owners must address governance principles and decision structures early, before expanding family needs and complex international asset allocations outstrip a single founder's ability to maintain oversight.
