Nintendo reported a profit of £693 million for the six months to June after landing a refund from trade tariffs introduced by Donald Trump. The Japanese firm, which makes Super Mario video games, saw its profit rise 54 per cent compared to the previous year despite a 9.5 per cent decline in sales to £2.4 billion.
Nintendo said the profit figure was helped by the refund of tariffs in the US. Strong sales of its Switch 2 console and steady performance from new game titles also contributed to the results.
The company released new titles Yoshi and the Mysterious Book in May and Star Fox in June. Nintendo did not specify exactly how big a refund it received in the US.
US Tariff Refunds
Trump's government has had to repay around £74 billion in tariffs after the US Supreme Court ruled that the import levies were unconstitutional. The President had announced the tariffs last year without securing Congressional approval.
