Inspired by the 1950s Lawson Criterion, which calculates the ratio of plasma energy generated to external energy required, the new model evaluates ten key parameters. The system combines engineering variables like power density, energy conversion efficiency, and component durability with capital costs and energy market dynamics.
Project creators said the economic analysis fills a missing piece in fusion development by allowing real scale costs to be anticipated early. They emphasized that the tool helps engineers and investors design reactors that function as sustainable businesses capable of transforming global energy systems.
