MEP Afroditi Latinopoulou Verbally Attacked at Tinos Port

Member of European Parliament Afroditi Latinopoulou was verbally attacked by a group of men at the port of Tinos, according to a report by news outlet Thestival. Latinopoulou had traveled to the island with her mother for a pilgrimage to Panagia.

The incident began when a group of Roma approached the politician to speak with her. One of the men reportedly told her that they were not all the same.

Latinopoulou responded by referencing her previous public statements regarding crime. She told the group that if they pay taxes and do not commit theft or electricity theft, she has no problem with them, specifying that her past comments targeted individuals who break the law.

Verbal Escalation and Police Report

Her response drew angry reactions from several group members, who began directing vulgar expressions at her. The situation escalated when one man moved toward Latinopoulou, but another member of the group restrained him, preventing physical violence.

Latinopoulou was traveling without the state-provided police guard assigned to her. She reported the incident to the police after reaching her destination. The Coast Guard has not opened a case file regarding the incident.
