Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have reunited on screen in the first trailer for their upcoming Apple TV comedy series Brothers.
The long-time friends play fictionalised versions of themselves in the new show, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. The series draws inspiration from real-life speculation by both actors that they might share the same father.
The story begins when the engagement of Harrelson's daughter falls apart. Seeking a place to heal, Harrelson moves his family to McConaughey's ranch in Austin, Texas, for an extended stay.
The family retreat turns chaotic when McConaughey's mother accidentally reveals a secret kept for decades. Her slip suggests that the two actor friends may in fact be half-brothers.
Ranch chaos and political ambitions
Harrelson decides to uncover the truth about his parentage, causing disruption across the entire Texas ranch. At the same time, McConaughey faces a major personal turning point as he considers running for governor of Texas.
When the emotional turmoil at the ranch reaches dramatic heights in the trailer, Harrelson defends his reaction by explaining that he is naturally dramatic because he works as an actor.
Supporting cast and television reunion
The comedy features an ensemble cast alongside the two leads. The supporting cast includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Heidi Quan, and Una Yaffe.
Brothers marks another major television project for McConaughey and Harrelson, who share a real-life friendship spanning several decades. The pair previously starred together as lead homicide detectives in the first season of the HBO drama series True Detective in 2014.
Their professional history also includes shared roles in feature films such as the 1999 satire EDtv and the 2008 comedy Surfer, Dude.
Brothers will premiere on Apple TV on September 23, 2026, launching with its first two episodes. New episodes of the series will follow weekly on Wednesdays.
