Maria Karystianou, president of the Hope for Democracy movement, visited the island of Paros for the August 15 holiday commemorating the Dormition of the Mother of God. On Sunday morning, August 16, she was seen waiting in line alongside fellow passengers at the island port to board a return ferry.
The Cycladic island experienced heavy visitor traffic for the annual religious celebrations, which draw large crowds of travelers to local shrines every summer. Video footage released online showed Karystianou queuing among passengers at the harbor during morning departures.
Feast day message
One day earlier, on the feast day of August 15, Karystianou posted a holiday message on her personal Facebook page. In her post, she described living in a country filled with endless blue and pure white as a blessing.
She wrote that Greece is populated by people who continue to smile despite difficulties, even with tearful eyes, because hope in their souls remains alive and unharmed. She addressed the Virgin Mary as a beloved mother of all and referred to Greece as pained but always proud.
Karystianou stated that with help from heaven, darkness would be dispersed and light would warm hearts once again. She extended festive wishes to everyone celebrating their name day, as well as to those keeping a great vision alive and joining the cause with dedication.
Addressing younger generations, she offered holiday greetings to young people and invited those living abroad to return home. She added that she would fight to ensure that young Greeks never feel forced to emigrate, concluding her message with greetings for Greece.

On the same day, the Political Council of Hope for Democracy published a social media message honoring Karystianou on her name day. The council extended wishes for many happy and blessed years to their president, calling her the Maria of their hearts.
