Peruvian television presenter Magaly Medina has revealed that fellow host Gisela Valcárcel previously turned down an opportunity to share the stage with her during the annual Teletón charity broadcast, despite Valcárcel's recent public statements suggesting an interest in meeting.
Speaking during a broadcast of her evening entertainment program Magaly TV, la firme, Medina stated that former television producer Ney Guerrero initiated the plan years ago to organize a joint appearance between the two competing TV stars to boost fundraising for the charity.
Medina said she had readily agreed to participate because the initiative was for a major charitable cause. However, she claimed that Valcárcel rejected the proposal when approached, stating at the time that it was not the right moment and refusing to move forward with the meeting.
The disclosure occurred during an on-air discussion with media personalities Israel Dreyfus, Alfredo Benavides, and Leysi Suárez. Medina explained that Guerrero personally informed her of Valcárcel's decision after spending considerable effort convincing Medina to agree to the joint appearance.
Dispute Over Meeting Preconditions
Medina brought up the past episode in response to recent comments made by Valcárcel on the show Sin +Q Decir. During that appearance, Valcárcel discussed a potential meeting but suggested that Medina would first have to attend her own show.
Medina expressed annoyance at the condition, clarifying that while she would have no objection to cooperating with Valcárcel for a social or charitable event today, she refuses to accept preconditions. Describing Valcárcel's attitude as two faced, Medina remarked that Valcárcel could go alone and ruled out any meeting under those terms.
Medina and Valcárcel are two of the most prominent television hosts in Peru, often known in national media by their respective nicknames La Urraca and La Señito. For decades, both personalities have held major positions on rival national networks, maintaining a long standing professional rivalry that has frequently drawn significant media attention.
Guerrero served as a prominent executive producer for Medina's programs, playing a key role in structuring her television broadcasts over many years.
The Teletón Charity Event in Peru
The Teletón in Peru is a major annual televised charity campaign that brings together media outlets, performers, and television personalities across the country. The initiative raises funds to support medical treatment and rehabilitation for children with physical disabilities, primarily funding the San Juan de Dios clinic network.
The recent controversy coincides with updates regarding the Teletón 2026 broadcast. Valcárcel recently confirmed that she would not serve as a host for the 2026 charity event, though she pledged her full support and donated a substantial sum to the fundraising drive.
Additionally, Medina publicly criticized the departure of Valcárcel's daughter, television host Ethel Pozo, from the Teletón presentation team. Medina commented that Pozo was experiencing the same pattern of events that Valcárcel herself had carried out throughout her broadcast career.
