Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro hold the highest voter rejection rates in Brazil, according to a Vox Brasil poll released on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The survey found that 52.7 percent of interviewed voters said they would not vote for Lula, while 49.3 percent said the same for Bolsonaro.
With the poll carrying a margin of error of 2.15 percentage points higher or lower, Vox Brasil reported that both politicians share the same effective level of rejection among the electorate. The survey allowed respondents to select multiple names, meaning voters could indicate more than one candidate they refused to support.
Lula, a leader of the Workers' Party, is currently serving his third non-consecutive term as president of Brazil after returning to office in 2023. Flávio Bolsonaro represents the state of Rio de Janeiro in the Federal Senate for the Liberal Party and is the eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Rejection metrics are closely watched in Brazilian politics because high disapproval can limit a candidate's viability in a two-round election.
Rejection rates across candidates
Following the top two figures, Romeu Zema of the Novo party recorded a 30.5 percent rejection rate, while Ronaldo Caiado of the PSD stood at 28.7 percent. Renan Santos of the Missão movement registered 25.3 percent rejection, and Pablo Marçal of the PRTB recorded 22.4 percent.
Among other figures in the survey, Clariana Barão of the DC appeared with a 13.3 percent rejection rate. Edmilson Costa of the PCB recorded 9.3 percent, Augusto Cury of Avante received 9 percent, and Wilson Grassi of the Democrata party registered 8.7 percent.
Rui Costa Pimenta of the PCO recorded 5.2 percent rejection, Hertz Dias of the PSTU registered 3.5 percent, and Samara Martins of the UP stood at 3 percent. A small group of respondents, accounting for 2.3 percent of those polled, stated that they would not reject any candidate, while 8.8 percent said they did not know or declined to state an opinion.
Survey methodology and electoral registration
The Vox Brasil research polled 2,100 voters between August 25 and August 27, 2026. The survey features a 95 percent confidence level alongside its margin of error of 2.15 percentage points.
The study is officially registered with the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil under the filing number BR-05519/2026. Brazilian election regulations require polling institutes to register survey data, including sample sizes and statistical methods, with the electoral tribunal before releasing results to the public.
