Libertad FC defeated Universidad Católica 2-1 on Monday afternoon, moving closer to a spot in the Liga Ecuabet's main hexagonal round.

Vilington Branda scored in the 40th minute and Enrique Caicedo added a second in the 67th minute for the team coached by Colombian Juan Pablo Buch. Saenddy Yánez pulled one back for Universidad Católica in the 85th minute.

Libertad FC finished the match with nine players after Johan Estacio was sent off in the first minute of stoppage time and Gabriel Cortez was sent off in the fifth minute of added time.

Standings Impact

Libertad FC moved to 33 points, two behind sixth-placed Liga de Quito, which has 37 points after losing to Independiente del Valle. Universidad Católica remained in fourth place with 39 points, unable to match the pace of Aucas and Macará, who trail the leader.

Libertad FC will next visit Estadio Christian Benítez Betancourt at Parque Samanes to face Guayaquil City, while Universidad Católica will travel to face Macará at the Bellavista stadium in Ambato in what is described as a key match.
